Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI) has just named Manitowoc Foodservice their Manufacturer of the Year. Criteria were based on the demonstration of exceptional innovation in product research, design, and development. The award salutes the company for best satisfying the foodservice industry’s needs and contributing to the overall effectiveness in the areas of safety, operations and/or efficiency in customer service.
Over the years, each division of Manitowoc Foodservice – Ice Machines, Beverage, and Refrigeration, has been a strong contributor to the flow of new products and new technologies that have undeniably shaped the foodservice industry and changed the way that commercial and non-commercial kitchens operate. Here are just a few ways that we meet these challenges and in turn provide reliable and innovative foodservice equipment solutions to our customers around the world.
Manitowoc’s Ice Division
In 1968 Manitowoc’s patented the revolutionary vertical ice evaporator; providing a new level of reliability and production capacities in ice machines. 40 years later, the original vertical evaporator concept continues to be the most energy and water efficient method to make ice – truly a “time-proven” technology.
More recently, Manitowoc’s patented CVD technology improved upon the standard remote condenser fan by combining the condenser fan and compressor into a single roof-top unit; making the ice machine 75% quieter than a self-contained or standard remote ice machine. CVD models are more reliable, more efficient, and provide a higher level of ice production. To further increase energy-efficiency the patented air-assist technology reduces cycle times.
We continue to improve our energy and water efficiency standards on all our ice machines. Currently, over 97% of Manitowoc’s cube ice machine meet or exceed the stringent energy performance standards such as those established by CEE or ENERGY STAR®.
Manitowoc’s Beverage Division
Multiplex brand:
Working with our customers, Manitowoc recently pioneered the application of a CO2 refrigerant to an ice bank system for beverage chilling. The new CO2 beverage dispensing system by Multiplex is a completely natural refrigerant that has the lowest possible direct global warming potential of any refrigerant (GWP = 1), therefore, there is no risk of future regulatory action banning or imposing a carbon tax for its use. By replacing HFC-based refrigerants with naturally-occurring carbon dioxide, the units reduce the environmental footprint of the beverage systems; eliminating the need for special handling and capture of ozone-depleting refrigerants while contributing to a “greener” world.
The first Multiplex units featuring this new technology are slated for use in August 2008 in Beijing, China.
Servend brand:
As the needs and expectations of the customer change, so does the industry. Challenged to adapt to an often fickle consumer, Servend developed the industry’s only ice/beverage dispenser providing the option of either crushed or cubed ice from one beverage dispenser; eliminating the necessity for multiple ice machines. Combine the ice choices with 16 beverage options and 8 flavor shots, and there are literally millions of possible drink combinations available. Flav’r Pic™ with Manitowoc’s patented “ice crusher” technology offers customers a truly “customized” drink.
Manitowoc’s Refrigeration Division
While most walk-ins may look the same on the outside, its Kolpak’s serious approach to food safety and it’s commitment to saving energy that sets it apart from the rest.
Features such as a temperature alert to monitor and control temperatures inside of the walk-in and an energy-saving light management system tot automatically turn interior lights on and off; solving two of biggest energy wasters – leaving lights on and accidentally leaving the door open. In addition, Kolpak also offers a Green-friendly 404A refrigeration system. With 100% “green” insulation and many other energy-efficiency features, Kolpak walk-ins can contribute to LEED certification through the US Green Building Council. Just a few reasons why Kolpak is the only walk-in to receive FE&S magazine’s “Best in Class” award in the walk-in refrigeration category for the seventh consecutive year.
